Import Community Courses From Memrise to Polidict

Importing Memrise vocabulary into Polidict lets you reuse words and meanings from a saved course. Learning progress is not transferred: reviews start again in Polidict. Try a few words before importing a large list.

Have Memrise community courses closed?

No. Memrise's current update says older courses remain on the community website. Memrise is also bringing custom word lists into its main product in 2026. Moving to Polidict is a choice, not a requirement caused by an announced shutdown.

What you need

• Access to your Memrise community course and its export.

• A compatible .memrise-course-progress file containing JSON. Ordinary CSV is not supported by this importer; use batch import for that format.

• A Polidict account with the correct learning language selected.

The Memrise Community Course Progress Exporter is a third-party Chrome extension. Its listing is available as of this article's update; exporting depends on the extension and Memrise's current format. Review its permissions before installing and keep your original file.

How to move your vocabulary

1. On a computer, open your course on the Memrise community website. The extension developer's instructions use an Export progress button on the course overview.

2. Sign in to Polidict, select the correct learning language, and open Memrise import.

3. Upload the .memrise-course-progress file or paste its JSON content into the text field.

4. Check the course name, words, and second column. In the options, choose whether that column contains meanings or translations.

5. Select a few rows and import those first. Check the resulting group and entries before importing the rest. Review any prompts about an existing word or group.

6. Open your group and start a short training session. Future reviews follow your practice in Polidict.

What transfers, and what does not

The importer reads words, the second column, and a part-of-speech attribute when present in a compatible export. It combines course levels into one group named after the course.

Memrise answer history, review intervals, audio, images, and usage examples are not transferred. Do not assume that exports of new word lists from the main Memrise app are compatible. If a file fails to open, check its format or try a small selection through batch import.

These import steps use Polidict's website. An iPhone app is also available for studying. Android is in an active closed beta, so installation requires tester access.
