Why not just ask ChatGPT or Claude?

An AI assistant is great at explaining words and inventing exercises, but it doesn’t keep a study plan. Polidict adds what a chat is missing.

  • Words that don’t get lost

A chat forgets your words when it ends. Polidict keeps every word with its meanings, examples, notes, and groups, ready for your next conversation.

  • Review at the right time

An assistant doesn’t know what you studied last week. Polidict’s FSRS schedule picks the words you’re about to forget, so every session focuses on them.

  • Progress you can see

Polidict tracks meaning, writing, listening, and speaking for each word, so you know what you’ve learned and what still needs work.

  • One vocabulary everywhere

Practice in ChatGPT, Claude, the Polidict website, the mobile apps, or Raycast. Every confirmed answer counts toward the same progress, so you lose nothing when you switch assistants.

What you can ask

  • Find your words

Search your saved words and groups, with meanings, examples, and notes.

“Which travel words have I saved?”

  • Add new words

Ask for words on a topic or from a text you’re reading, and save the ones you want with meanings and examples.

“Add 5 useful words for job interviews to my vocabulary.”

  • Edit words

Fix a meaning, or add an example, note, image, or group to a saved word.

“Add meticulous to my Work group with two examples.”

  • Practice in conversation

Flashcards, quizzes, matching, and writing, plus listening and speaking if your app supports audio. Words come from your FSRS review schedule.

“Give me 10 words to review, one at a time.”

  • Track progress

See how many words you’ve learned, what’s due for review, and your streak in each language.

    “How is my English going?”

  • Organize groups

Create, rename, and delete groups. Deleting a group keeps its words.

“Create a group for my IELTS words.”

Connect your app

Every app uses the same server URL. Sign in to Polidict and allow access; no API keys or secrets needed. The assistant can then find, add and edit your words and groups, and it asks before saving any practice result.

The steps below use the claude.ai and chatgpt.com websites as an example. In the apps, or after an update, the menus may look a little different.

Claude

  1. On claude.ai, open Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click + Add → Add custom connector.
  3. Enter the name Polidict and the URL https://api.polidict.com/mcp, then click Continue.
  4. Choose Sign in now and click Add. Sign in to Polidict or create a free account, then click Connect to allow access.
  5. In a chat, open + → Connectors and make sure Polidict is turned on.

On Claude’s Free plan, you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner has to add the connector first. Anthropic’s help center has the latest details.

ChatGPT

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT.
  2. Click Add → Add custom MCP server.
  3. Enter the name Polidict, put https://api.polidict.com/mcp in Connection, and leave authentication set to OAuth.
  4. ChatGPT warns about every custom server that isn’t in its directory yet; that’s expected. Check I understand and want to continue, click Create as a plugin, then sign in to Polidict or create a free account, and click Connect to allow access.
  5. Review the Polidict tools and install the plugin, then type @ in a new chat and choose Polidict.

We’re working on an official listing in ChatGPT’s app directory. Whether you can add custom MCP servers depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. If you don’t see the option, check OpenAI’s docs.

Terminal

In Claude Code and Codex CLI, you can add Polidict with a single command.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user polidict https://api.polidict.com/mcp

Then start claude, type /mcp, select polidict, and complete sign-in in your browser.

Codex CLI

codex mcp add polidict --url https://api.polidict.com/mcp
codex mcp login polidict

Other apps that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in use the same URL.

To check that it works, start a new chat and ask: “What’s in my Polidict vocabulary?”

If something doesn’t work

I don’t see the option to add a connector
Menus can differ between the website and the apps, and they change after updates. Try the claude.ai or chatgpt.com website, which these steps were written for. In a Team or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to allow custom connectors or add Polidict first.
Sign-in didn’t complete
Make sure you have a Polidict account, then remove the connector and add it again. If the Polidict page doesn’t open, allow pop-ups for claude.ai or chatgpt.com.
The assistant isn’t using Polidict
Check that Polidict is turned on for the chat, then mention it by name, for example “Use Polidict to quiz me on my words.” In ChatGPT, type @ and choose Polidict.

You stay in control

  • 01

    Every result needs your OK

Polidict asks the assistant to check with you before saving each answer, including wrong ones. Say no and your progress stays the same.

  • 02

    No API keys

You sign in on a Polidict page and approve access there. Your password and API keys are never shared with the AI app.

  • 03

    Disconnect any time

Remove the connector in your AI app or in Connected apps in Polidict. Your words and progress stay in your account.

  • 04

Your AI app’s privacy policy applies

What the assistant reads from Polidict is processed by that app under its own privacy policy. Connect Polidict only to apps you trust.

Questions

Does it cost extra?

No. The connection works on every Polidict plan, and your plan’s word and group limits apply as usual.

Which apps work?

ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Codex CLI, plus other apps that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in. Your AI app’s plan or workspace settings may limit custom connectors.

Who checks my answers?

Your AI assistant checks the answer and gives feedback. Polidict saves only the results you confirm and updates your review schedule.

Can it check my pronunciation?

Listening and speaking practice depends on your AI app’s audio features. Polidict doesn’t receive any recordings.
