Polidict in ChatGPT and Claude: your vocabulary via MCP
Polidict now works inside ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI apps: look up and save words, manage groups, and practice right in the chat, with results saved to your progress.
You can now connect Polidict to ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI apps. Once connected, the assistant can work with your Polidict vocabulary: find a word, save a new one with examples, organize words into groups, and quiz you right in the chat. Exercise results go into your regular Polidict progress, but only after you confirm them.

Polidict practice in ChatGPT and Claude over MCP
The connection uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that AI apps use to connect to outside services. Polidict uses a single server address for every app:
https://api.polidict.com/mcpFor step-by-step setup, everything the assistant can do, and answers to common questions, see Polidict in AI assistants. Here's the short version.
Why connect Polidict instead of just asking the assistant?
ChatGPT and Claude are great at explaining words and inventing exercises, but on their own they don't keep a study plan. Polidict adds what a chat is missing:
Words that don't get lost. A chat forgets your words when it ends. Polidict keeps every word with its meanings, examples, notes, and groups, ready for your next conversation.
Review at the right time. An assistant doesn't know what you studied last week. Polidict's spaced repetition schedule picks the words you're about to forget.
Progress you can see. Polidict tracks meaning, writing, listening, and speaking for each word.
One vocabulary everywhere. Practice in ChatGPT, Claude, the Polidict website, the mobile apps, or Raycast. Every confirmed answer counts toward the same progress, so you lose nothing when you switch assistants.
What Polidict can do in ChatGPT and Claude
Just ask in plain language. For example:
"Find the travel words in my vocabulary" — searches your saved words and groups
"Add meticulous with two examples to my Work group" — saves a new word with meanings, examples, and a group
"Give me 10 words to review and make a quiz" — a meaning, writing, listening, or speaking exercise, one question at a time or all at once
"How is my English going?" — words learned, words due for review, and your streak
"Find a picture for lighthouse" — finds images you can attach to a word
The assistant picks words that are due in your FSRS review schedule, so practicing in chat keeps the same intervals as the Polidict apps. Learn more about the algorithm in our post on FSRS v6.
Ask about your progress, and ChatGPT pulls it from your Polidict data:

You decide what gets saved
After each answer, the assistant gives feedback and asks separately whether to save the result, even if the answer was wrong. If you say no, your progress stays the same. Skipped questions and revealed answers aren't saved.
Polidict instructs the assistant to ask before saving each result and never to record an attempt you didn't make. Deleting a group never deletes the words in it.
Here's what practice looks like in ChatGPT. First, a meaning quiz with feedback, followed by the save question:

A writing exercise, where you type the word that matches the definition:

If you don't remember a word, the assistant shows the answer, marks it as forgotten, and still asks before saving:

How to connect Polidict to Claude
The steps below use the claude.ai and chatgpt.com websites as an example. In the apps, or after an update, the menus may look a little different.
Open claude.ai and go to Customize → Connectors.
Click + Add → Add custom connector.

The Add menu in Connectors on claude.ai
Enter the name Polidict and the URL
https://api.polidict.com/mcp, then click Continue.

The Add custom connector form with the Polidict server URL
Choose Sign in now and click Add. A Polidict page opens: sign in or create a free account, then click Connect to allow access.
In a new chat, click + → Connectors and make sure Polidict is turned on.

The Connectors menu in a Claude chat with Polidict turned on
On the connector page, you can choose which actions Claude may take on its own and which need your approval first.

Tool permissions for Polidict in Claude
On Claude's Free plan, you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner has to add the connector first. See Anthropic's help article for the latest details.
How to connect Polidict to ChatGPT
Open the Plugins page in ChatGPT.
Click Add → Add custom MCP server.

The Add menu on the ChatGPT Plugins page
Enter the name Polidict, put
https://api.polidict.com/mcpin Connection, and leave authentication set to OAuth.ChatGPT warns about every custom server that isn't in its directory yet; that's expected. Check I understand and want to continue and click Create as a plugin. Then sign in to Polidict or create a free account, and click Connect to allow access.

The Add custom MCP server form in ChatGPT with the Polidict URL
Review the Polidict tools and install the plugin. Then type
@in a new chat and choose Polidict.
Whether you can add custom MCP servers depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. If you don't see the option, check OpenAI's documentation.
How to connect Polidict in the terminal
If you work with AI agents in the terminal, you can add Polidict with a single command.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user polidict https://api.polidict.com/mcpThen start claude, type /mcp, select polidict, and complete sign-in in your browser.
Codex CLI:
codex mcp add polidict --url https://api.polidict.com/mcp
codex mcp login polidictOther apps that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in work the same way: use the same URL and sign in to Polidict. You don't need any API keys or secrets.
How to disconnect
Remove the connector in your AI app's settings, or open Connected apps in Polidict and click Disconnect. Your saved words and progress stay in your account.
Keep in mind that whatever the assistant reads from Polidict is then handled by that AI app under its own privacy policy. Connect Polidict only to apps you trust.
What's next
We're working on getting Polidict listed as an official app in the ChatGPT and Claude directories. Once it's approved, you'll be able to add Polidict in a couple of clicks without entering the server URL. Until then, use the custom setup described above. Connections you add now will keep working.
